I know my wife gets upset when her so-called "friends" don't invite her to things. It seems they come up with a myriad of excuses, but they always seem to sidestep to most obvious reason, me. It really hurts her to be alienated on account of me. I don't know why they would do such a thing but it doesn't hurt my feelings any. I don't follow the rules of the crowd. Never have, never will. I love my wife and I will be nice to her friends, but I will not change my ways to make them feel less offended. Their offense comes from their insecurities, not mine.
